Happy Lunar New Year!
Today Koreans celebrated Seollal (설날) ~ the Lunar New Year. Seollal is officially a 3-day holiday, but people often take more time during which they travel to ancestoral burial grounds in their hometowns and homes of relatives. A must-eat food for this New Year holiday is Duk-Gook, which is a sliced rice cake soup with green onions and egg. Here is a recipe.
(we didn't make this today ~ and I have some guilt about that ~ but, I am sure it will be on the menu very soon)
2010 is the year of the Tiger...a most beloved animal throughout Korean history. The country was once dubbed the ``nation of tigers'' as it has mountainous areas that provided them with a good habitat. The animal has been a symbol of bravery, strength and dignity. So, 2010, the Year of the Tiger is expected to be fervently hailed as a year of good fortune and vigor. So far, we'd have to agree!
