the cottage: proudest moment

"all things grow with time - except grief."  but, thanks to the memories and relationship i have with my grandpa along with the love, support, and prayers of family and so many friends, the grief i have been feeling over the past few days since my grandpa died has been bearable.  i know, without a doubt, that it has been all the thoughts, hugs, and prayers that have given me a sense of peace and calmness.  for this, my friends, i am forever grateful.  thank you.

ever since i dropped drew’s bike out of the back of our vehicle last fall (don't ask) and broke a training wheel, drew has been riding his bike with just one training wheel on his bike (the left side, if you're curious).  as terrible as i felt about this…as an approach to get rid of the training wheels and getting drew riding on two wheels, the approach appears has been a success.

being the magical place that the cottage is…it’s really no wonder that this is where drew mastered riding on two wheels!  it happened rather quickly and unexpectedly.  so much so, neither damon nor i had our phones or the camera with us to capture this incredibly awesome milestone.

the boys headed down the long driveway on their bikes…drew speeding down on his custom three wheeler while damon and i walked with leo as he scooted along on his new motorcycle balance bike.  drew got to the end of the driveway, waited for us, and asked if he could ride back.  we said sure…and off he rode.  next thing we see in the distance is drew balancing on two wheels and going and going and going.  damon and i were so excited!!! damon started running to the infamous garage and i encouraged leo to scoot a little faster (in which he obliged).  in the garage i think a lot of pride and celebrating went on and then damon asked drew if he wanted to take the training wheel off.  drew said yes.  off went the lone training wheel.  and back out to the driveway came damon and drew.  it just took a little steadying and a tiny push from damon, and drew was off!!  and from then on it’s just been drew and his two wheels!

drew was so happy and so excited…and damon and i were both of those things – plus extremely proud!! in case you don’t believe me…take a look at these great pictures taken after drew’s first real solo ride without this training wheel.

until next time…be happy. have fun.

that's so cool! Maybe I should let Isaac's bike fall off the back of the car.....
I'm intrigued by the balance bike. I've heard a lot of good things about them. Matthew's legs still aren't long enough for the bike he got last year--maybe we should look into it.

LOVE the last shot. And though you didn't have pics, the descriptions were fantastic :)

Nice job, Drew! That's impressive and I love when things like breaking your kid's bike turn into great successes like riding a two wheeler! Look out Tour de France, here comes Drew! I'm just catching up on blog reading and read the extremely moving and emotional post about your grandfather. I'm so sorry for your loss, but so happy for the wonderful memories you made with him.
